Best ever sporadic-E opening on 2m
I am already quite a long time QRV on 2m and I always keep an eye out for DX but this May 26, 2016 I will not soon forget. This day brought my best so far “exploitative” during a sporadic E opening in which I operate ham radio and VHF DX in my 36 years. I was alarmed in the morning by the great android app EsSense by DXrobot and PE1NWL (picture is ©copyright by PE1NWL) app download -> ( google play store link). So I checked the DX cluster and saw there was a short opening on 2m to Russia but it was already gone. I observed the MUF all day using EsSense app and decided to go at the late afternoon to my VHF QTH. Switching on the radio I found a complete open magic 😀 6m band to East mainly Russia and Norway/Sweden with amazing 59+40 signals. There I decided to switch quick to the “more magic” 😉 2m band.
That has been the right decisions: on 144.300 MHz I heard “again” this typical ES bursts – parts of words – and than it began: UA3WM/KO72 signal came in after that US4IEK/KN87. Knowing that the .300 is so what of crowded during a ES opening I decided to run a series of CQ on 144.310 and this was the right choice. Station after station was calling me and I had a kind of pile up I did not knew before. At all I made 27 contacts and the ODX was RZ6MB/LN17 with 2458km I thing this is the maximum rage what could be done in a single hop.

I was recording most of the ES session and due to that I was able to correct the wrong call sign of RA6LT”G” to the right one RA6LTD. Sometimes it happens that you have the ears full of noise and crowd and picking up that way something wrong. By the way to record the session was a tip by my friend DL8SCQ – TNX Ebi.
